the times we had, some of it went well and some of it was hell

if you haven't heard of the bra boys, maybe you should. a true story of friendship, family, blood, sweat and tears. they are a group of surfing mates straight out of maroubra, a suburb in sydney, australia. they have a dark side to them, sure. linked to some wrong-doings and controversial events. and they have an insane side to them too. taking control of an insane reef break called cape solander, surfing it and renaming it to "ours". but what stands out is the camaraderie. the friendship. come hell or high water. because "you find out who your real friends are. they're the ones who stick around when everything goes wrong".

a primeira vez que ouvi o xavier foi em 2004. há 6 anos. muitas ondas surfadas depois, muitas manhãs solarengas depois, muitos entardeceres preguiçosos depois e muitos km rolados depois, o som de xavier rudd ainda mexe com a minha alma como nunca conseguirei explicar. ri a ouvi-lo. chorei a ouvi-lo. fiz amor a ouvi-lo. viajei a ouvi-lo. apaixonei-me a ouvi-lo. e adormeci a ouvi-lo. e fui um dos poucos privilegiados a vê-lo ao vivo no santiago alquimista quando ainda poucos sabiam quem era. foi uma noite que nunca esquecerei. desde o primeiro sopro do didgeridoo até à última cerveja no chapitô a ver lisboa deitada junta ao rio. e com a melhor companhia. como ele diz, "summer is coming, it's time to smile".

i start to wonder if this was the thing to do

i won't regret saying this. i broke glass, hand and heart. i fixed door, smile and soul. i've done one thing to stop another and stopped something to start over. i'm big on duality. small on regret. in fact i don't have many regrets in life. but the few i have weigh on me like a ton of bricks. and as i walk through life i drag them along and leave a trail of debris and maybe's. just in case i go there everyday to make myself feel bad. and there's a chance i'll start to wonder if this was the thing to do.

forever young

1980. i remember the first time i fell skateboarding. i was in love with my scar. from then on everything i did in life i had to do fully until i broke. i still am that way today. and i still break a lot. and i'm still proud of every scar i carry. on skin or heart. and whenever i feel old or like giving up, i look at that first scar i still proudly carry and i feel forever young.
