they're here. the top seeded surfers in the world have arrived to make the best out of my home waves. the timing has been spot on fortunately. swell has not dissapointed. so far. and as expected nor has their surfing. it's great to finally see portugal on the world tour's calendar on a regular basis. we have the goods. so why not. but what really ticks me off is all the hoopla that comes along with this event. sure it's great for the local and national economy and business'. sure it's an opportunity to see surfing's finest up close and personal. sure tourism benefits. but the shit hits the fan when you really stop to check out most people that swarm over. limelight hogging surfers. pseudo wanna-be photographers. sexed-up groupies. hype thirsty out-of-towners. and so much bullshit, assholes and posers that it's almost hard to admit you're a surfer. almost makes me want to take up some other sport like curling or whatnot. it embarasses the shit out of me. and then the surf community wonders why the rest of the world deems us potheads, idiots, superficial and ignorant. anyway, the circus comes to town. unfortunately the clowns outweigh by far the artists. but oh well. it's not a perfect world.
kudos to all the professional surfers, real surf photographers and film-makers, surf brands and decent people involved. the rest, well, hope this shit is over fast so you can take your garbage elsewhere.
